As a tenant it is important to make your views known about the type of windows that will be used to refurbish your home. After all, you will be the occupier of that home, and once the windows are installed, they are likely to be there for quite some time. Your say on what the windows look like, how they function and which company supplies them, is very important.
Also, in the construction industry, there are increasing moves towards including tenant groups more of the status of ‘partner’ in the whole process than ever before. ‘Rethinking Construction’ is the initiative which began this drive, and at the heart of it all is the idea that you as a ‘customer’ should be able to have more influence than ever before on building projects that affect you. In the case of replacing your windows, this means you have more of a say than ever on what products are chosen and by whom they are supplied.
It is likely that your ALMO, Housing Association, RSL or Local Authority has set up a ‘tenant committee’ to decide on what needs to be done. For more of a say on your new windows, why not join the tenant group? Ask your neighbours what they know about these kind of committees and find out how to join yours. By getting involved like this you will help to mould the future of your home.
